Irwin Shaw's credit

This script's credits include Irwin Shaw as its writer, but he didn't base "Beggarman, Thief" on this script?

reply

The credits confirm that the "Book II" series was BASED UPON CHARACTERS created by Irwin Shaw in his original novel which the "Book I" mini-series was based upon. Therefore, Shaw had no input as a writer in "Book II" whatsoever. "Beggarman, Thief" is Irwin Shaw's continuation of his original novel which wasn't published until after the "Book II" series was televised. It was subsequently adapted into a 2-part TV movie in 1979.

Ok Tony, Irwin is listed in the writing credits at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074047/fullcredits . How can I see his credit's attribute? Thanks.

Hi rootsmusic,

At the end of the END CREDITS & End Theme music for each episode of "Book 2" there's a statement that reads "Based on characters created by Irwin Shaw". It's listed below the Sound Effects Editor, Music Editor, and Women's Costumes by Bill Jobe and appears on screen for about 3 to 4 seconds before the end theme finishes and the Universal logo appears.
