Arkwright: Don't drown those puppies, I'll have wer-wer-one!!

I liked that thing she said about Arkwright when he had his leg in plaster and she was trying to help him out of the car - "It's like fighting off a gang of pickpockets!"

Do you think she'd ever have married him, even after her mother died? I'm not sure if she would have or not.

The eyes are open, the mouth moves, but Mr. Brain has long since departed, hasn't he, Perce?

Not only was she buxom she was sssssstate rrrrrrregistered. Irridescent brings up one of my hobby horses. I would have loved to have seen a one off (or hopefully a 20 off) reunion series made before Ronnie passed away. Arkwright still using the top bit of the HP sauce on his food before returning the bottle to the carton to be sold as new. By then he might have lost some weight and his money belt could fit him again!!!! What a classic episode the money belt one was.

I saw the pilot episode first (astonishing, that) & I didn't really take to the woman who played Nurse Gladys in that, though maybe that's a bit unfair. Lynda Baron's great, & yes, she & Ronnie Barker look like they're having fun with their flirtation. It's very fun to watch.

Hello all you Openallhours-ers,

I enjoyed the pilot episode. Both Arkwright and Granville are noticably younger (6 years, I think it was) and their respective hair is different in colour as well as length.

It was Sheila Brennan who played the "original" Gladys, and to my eye, she was even more attractive than Lynda Baron.

I love her Irish accent, and the twinkle in her eye as she makes the errant Arkwright drink a concoction of her making.

"Drink that," she says to the malingering Arkwright, "It's for shock."

Arkwright protests that he is not in shock, and she replies by telling him that he will be, once he gets that down him....

"Does it shift rust?" he asks, pulling a face at the horrible taste.

"You'll find out what it will shift." she tells him, with that twinkle in her eye.

He later tells Granville that she gave him "Half a pint of something to drink that was made out of postman's feet...." <<<HA HA>>>

At another point later, he asks Gladys "What is that perfume that you're wearing? Evening in Plaster of Paris?"

Another little difference....the original nurse's Morris Minor was a British Racing Green, as opposed to the white one used later by Lynda Baron.

Open All Hours is One of the best British series in my collection...............

She was attractive, but Lynda Baron's tenure as set Nurse Gladys as being buxomly inviting, and she couldn't match in that regard.
