Last Ever Episode

Can someone tell me what happens in the final episode of open all hours

'Keep Your Friends Close, But Your Enemies Closer'

It's "The Mystical Boudoir of Nurse Glady's Emmanuel" - Arkwright tries hard to get himself into Nurse Glady's bedroom; including the use of a ladder and a box of chocolates. Meanwhile Granville takes to wearing tights on his head... I didn't see it as an end to the show to be honest, it didn't close anything, which was great, as you can watch the shows over and over and not worry about it "ending" :)

I'd like to think that Arkwright kept that shop going till his dying breath. Even though it was Granville's inheritance, I don't think Arkwright would ever have been sure he was leaving it in safe hands.

You wouldn't know a joke if it got up and gave you a haircut - Edmund Blackadder

Doesn't Britain have national health care, which would presumably drastically reduce the out-of-pocket costs for such medication? This is mentioned in the Steptoe episode "The Economist" in which the elder Steptoe chastises the son for buying a wholesale lot of used dentures - anyone could get new dentures for a pittance because of national health care.

We have the NHS, but I dont know if they do Viagra etc.

No.it was Harold who had a go at Albert for buying the teeth.

I believe it was also the episode where Arkwright was doing a sales drive on some extremely bitter apples. When Granville went to Gladys' place with tights on his head - after having paid for them of course - I believe she emptied a chamber pot on him.

I always thought the last ever episode was unplanned.

What turned out to be the final series was a massive ratings hit. The following year Barker retired from showbusiness. Until then, people expected there would be another series of Open all hours.

Its that man again!!

I heard there was an attempt to revive it back in the mid 90's, however Ronnie was to unwell to make it so it remained on a shelf until poor Ronnie was long gone and it was made without him in 2013.

A follow up called "Still Open All Hours" started in 2013 with Granville running the shop
and most of the old customers.

Granville has a young relative called Leroy assisting him.
