I never quite understood this line. This is something I would think people would say about a teenager, but David Jason was 26 when season 1 was made; and by the time the series was finished he was 35 and they were still saying this about Granville in the last season. Was Granville supposed to be a good deal younger than David Jason was in real life or something?
Actually David Jason was born in 1940 and was 36 when the series started (33 in the pilot)and 45 when it ended, or are you confusing him with the character?
That is a good point. Granville is supossed to be younger than David, and why is it that people always seem to assume that programs are in real time. This series is not supposed to take place over as long a period as it was made. Another good example to proove this is "Bless This House" which ran from 1971 to about 1976, and the son, and daughter remained the same age throughout.
David Jason and Linda Barron are both older than Stephanie Cole( The black clad Mrs "Fa,Fa,Featherstone") and Linda Barron is only a year older than David Jason.
Honestly, if Ronnie was a bit slimmer and dyed his hair brown, i would have thought they were friends,or brothers, him being a year or two older, time has been very unkind to David Jasons face(skin) .. he has aged horribly, i do like him a lot but , i find it shocking he is only 35 ish at the beginning of this series, he looked as if he were closer to 50... due to his shorter stature, he appears to be younger, but not if youre going by his wrinkles/lines... All in all, i like the show, but it certainly isnt knee slapping funny.. "Sometimes being a bitch is all a gal has to hang onto"
Going back to the original question, wasn't that the joke? In their mid-twenties some people are married, with kids. But they are acting like he is 12.
Ronnie Barker was 11 years older than David Jason but in Porridge he played "Blanco" who was the oldest man in the prison! Getting made up to look like his own grandfather never worried David.
