What happened to Emma?

I've just finished watching the series through the end of Season 3, and I'm totally confused as to what happened to Emma Callon. She married Daniel, then sold off her shares to Mr Frazer. Then Daniel spoke to Elizabeth (more than once) about the state of their marriage-- then by the end of the series, he wanted Elizabeth to run off with him, but there was no mention at all of his wife. Did Emma die? Did she leave him? Or did they do the typical soap thing and just pretend she never existed?

I know in actuality Jane Seymour was off becoming a huge star in things like "Live & Let Die", but where did Emma go? Did I miss something some how?

No, he left Emma, and went to Australia alone at the end of Series 3, because Eliz wouldn't go with him. Daniel was written out and didn't appear in S4, he was presumed to be in Australia and Emma also was written out. Then in S5, he was written in again with a new actor. I wont say any more.. in case you want to watch it all in sequence.
