Opening titles ?

The episodes I've seen so far from the boxset have different opening titles than I remember from the first time around - I'm sure they used to be animated graphics of Steed, Gambit and Purdey "morphing" into each other in red white and blue. Anyone else remember them this way ?

the animated titles took over in episode 5 or 6 of season 1.

Yes, it's strange that the titles were changed half way through Series 1. I suppose its a bit the two different titles that were used for The Professionals, where When the Heat Cools Off is the only episode that is still shown with the old brown titles "commando" instead of the newer green ones that end with Cowley walking up to the camera lens.

The BBC4 repeats have now moved onto the "animated titles" episodes, which cheers me up. In the "original" titles, there's a shot of Purdey with long brown hair which has always annoyed me.

That shot of Purdey with long hair in the original opening titles was taken from her test shots before she had the famous Purdey bob haircut done for filming the series

I remember for the longest time thinking the shot of Purdey with longer hair must have been from some story when she went undercover. (I actually thought it might have been "Faces".) Funny that it was a scene that never appeared on the show.

This reminds me of the end credits of JONNY QUEST. For years-- decades, maybe-- I had the feeling the first part of the end credits-- when a group of African warriors are attacking as the heroes enter their plane via hover-craft, and then escape-- must have been from some episode I hadn't seen in ages (there was a lot of heavy censorship in the 70's, where entire sequences, or even a few entire episodes, were just NEVER seen anymore). But then I read it was part of a test reel made for a "JACK ARMSTRONG" series that HB was considering making, before they changed their minds and decided to go with something original they could own outright instead. It's just funny how the "JA" on the side of the plane looks a bit like "JQ".
