Ep by ep; Faces, Sleeper, Tale of the Big Why

Going to put this on as a 3 because they're not that great.

Tale of the Big Why; the New Avengers go treasure hunting and it is so BAD, not going to even talk about it.

Faces; ridiculous and not in a good way. If it has any redeeming features it is Purdey's imitation of an early Patsy from Ab Fab and Steed worrying about his captured double draining his wine cellar. Also like the fact that he doesn't smoke but carries a cigarette case for other people, such a Steed thing to do.

Sleeper; borrowing greatly from a classic ep this is pretty good although I wouldn't rate it as the highest as IMDB does, you keep thinking to yourself 'Gambit, pick up one of their guns' but he never does. Nice ending in the helicopter and I like the fact that we see Steed drinking beer but as he says it's an emergency.

Tale of Big Why: I agree. For a treasure hunt type episode it was incredibly dull. To this day I still couldn't tell you the plot!

Faces: I rather liked this one. I thought the idea of taking look a likes and using them to impersonate the real people, although a done to death concept, was still interesting. Joanna Lumley shows shimmers of comedic brilliance here. I loved her attitude and accent. She really seemed to be enjoying herself dressed like a gum chewing tart! Lumley is a fantastic actress, but it would take until 1992 before we could see the magnitude of her comedic talent in AB FAB!

Sleeper: This is a favorite episode for me! It was such fun and I loved the surrealness of the deserted streets. Joanna Lumley again is great here. Her posing as a mannequin in the store window was fun with her pants falling down. Great interplay between the three main leads and nice location work. Ice said it before, The Avengers does the deserted setting thing better than any show and it again works here. (At least Purdey wasn't asleep the whole episode like Tara!) great fun!
