So was this intended for kids?

When I think of Muppets, I think of kid friendly. Am I correct in my assumption here? And, I also heard this show has a certain level of adult humor and innuendo... but I am not sure if this is true or not. I would like to know before I see it XD, thanks!

Its a jungle out there.

I'm not totally sure but on a website it said that after Jim Henson did sesame street he wanted to create a show for all ages?

reply

I wouldn't say it was intended for kids alone, like a lot of variety shows it was more of a family show. There is adult humour but most of it would probably just soar over children's heads while they enjoyed the mayhem. As jfsredhead says, there is something for all ages in the show.

It has some adult humor and innuendo but nothing that kids will actually understand until they re-watch it when they're older

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

The way I heard it described was that Jim Henson wanted to make a show for adults that kids could watch too.

This was made and sold as a family show. like the Looney tunes cartoons, there are jokes and gags that appeal to different ages, but nothing too adult.

reply

No, I think adults can watch the show rather safely. There are a lot of 'complex' jokes too.

Let's put it this way. There's a lot less trouble here than bugs bunny. This is a brilliant show that allowed kids to push their parents to watch with them.

The kids didn't have to do much pushing in our household. My husband and I watched the show each week and also saw the movies as they came out. The memory I have from the first one is watching my 6' tall 250 lb husband sitting in the theatre seat with his fist crammed in his mouth to keep from laughing too loudly and trying not to fall out of his seat. It appealed to all ages and of course there were adult innuendos that sailed right over the heads of the kids.

I remember enjoying The Muppet Show when I was little without getting a lot of the humor intended for the more adult viewers. When I was older, it was fun to get those jokes too and being able to look at the show in a different way. The more matures jokes in The Muppet Show were always very innocent, especially compared to Muppets Tonight, which contained more explicit sexual references (not too obvious though, except maybe for the Baywatch parody with Spamela Anderson, a pig with huge breasts).
