It sure has taken a dive since the series was released on DVD. Before that it was an 8.6

I find that very strange and disheartening; the series has aged well indeed; I voted it a "10", and it puts to shame all similar programs today!

Never really noticed. Maybe some people were just mad the DVDs didn't come with Nimoy hosted updates like that rumor suggested?

It's currently at 8.7! 
