Bigfoot and the Bermuda Triangle

I was fascinated with those mysteries when watching this show as a kid. This series really triggered off a lot of wonder for me back then, but now as an adult, I'll scream if I hear anymore about Bigfoot. If there really was a giant hairy beast roaming around, it would've been caught long ago. Interesting thing too is that nobody mentions or talks about the Bermuda Triangle anymore.

The more I study it, the greater the puzzle becomes.

I remember being fascinated by the Bermuda Triangle when I was a kid as well, particularly since I was also an aviation buff and the Flight 19 mystery was very intriguing. I remember the openings scenes of Close Encounters with the discovery of the Avengers, as well as that particular episode of In Search Of really set it off. I thought the Bigfoot episode was also well done, but I never really got into that as much (even back then I figured that eventually someone would catch it or kill it if it were real). I was more into the ancient civilizations and pyramids.

I think most people brush off the Bermuda Triangle mystery these days. The myth is really just based on conspiracy theories and ghost stories, etc.

The Bermuda Triangle is not a myth. Numerous planes and ships, Not Just Flight 19, have disappeared in the region for centuries... The percentage of losses is far more that just about any other place on Earth.

What is uncertain, is what is causing the disappearances. UFOs? Something Paranormal? or something more natural?

Things that are very exciting but don't make any sense the more you think about them. Even Flight 19 was just explained as lost pilots running out of gasoline. Not alien abduction like in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND.

This part I agree with...

Oddly, while Flight 19 is probably the most famous Bermuda Triangle story, it is really one of the most blown out of proportion stories.

This story was also featured on Unsolved Mysteries.

Flight 19 made frequent radio contact with stations on the ground... and when you really read the transcripts of what they had to say, basically this is what happened...

- They were flying North, East of Florida.
- Their compasses went out...
- Somehow, they thought they were SOUTH of Florida, over the Florida Keys.
- They thought they had to Fly NORTH AND EAST to get back.
- (Flying EAST took them out to sea.)
- They thought they might have been wrong, and started Flying West.
- (Flying WEST took them toward the East Coast of Florida.)
- They did not fly far enough, and thought they were over the Gulf...
- So they flew EAST again, and back out to sea...
- There was at least one radio transmission noting one of the planes was running out of fuel.
- Flight 19 was never seen or heard from again...

Nothing supernatural here. They just got lost, and made incorrect assumptions that doomed them. Pretty Simple really. Nothing really odd about it at all... And yet, this story is what everyone talks about...

The only true mystery about Flight 19 is...

Why did they believe they were over the Florida Keys?

Flight 19 was EAST of Florida, and flying NORTH (away from the Florida Keys), when they started to have problems... When they thought they were over the Florida Keys, they had not been flying long enough to get there, even if they somehow got turned around and Flew SOUTH, all that time. What is even more confusing, is that they were supposed to know, that when they started flying NORTH, they were heading for a group of islands that looked much like The Florida Keys... They should never have thought they were over the Florida Keys. And yet they did.

Everything is reality TV programming these days, like the "Finding Bigfoot" series on Animal Planet.

I could just see a similar "Bermuda Triangle Hunters" playing on SYFY for example. Serious investigative journalism like In Search Of.. is sadly non-existent.

Perhaps this will one day change!

The thing nice about "In Search of..." is that it treats its subjects with respect. The disclaimer during the second intro says it all: "We're presenting one aspect or explanation for this story. There are plenty of others but they can do it on their dime, not ours."

Of course they must have laughed about some of these people and subjects, but not on camera. "Ook! Ook! I picked up the name Ook from somewhere earlier. Ook! Come on down to the camp, Ook..." anybody?

Well I live in Washington State and we take Bigfoot pretty darn seriously and you really can't kill one, so you have to go to Oregon or California if you're filling like you need to murder a Bigfoot.

I don't know if it's true or not but I'm open to all the possibilities. At the Seattle Museum of Mystery, they have boatloads of information on the "Reigning Hide and Seek Champion" of all time. Even detailed reports of all the sightings.

While I think most people will admit, including myself, that there are some people who do hoax Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti sightings and evidence, in hopes of getting their 15 minutes of fame...

There had to be something that started the whole mystery. And with the numerous sightings over the years, one has to admit, that they ALL can't be hoaxes... A Global conspiracy? Please... And even if it were true, why would the world want to fake "Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti"?

I also find it extremely difficult to believe that footprints have been hoaxed on top of snow covered mountains in remote parts of the world...

Now, I am not saying, the people actually see Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti. It is possible that many see bears or some other creature, and were scared and their minds played tricks on them.

However, there is the famous 1967 the Patterson–Gimlin film that CONTINUES to be debated. Some scientists and skeptics claim, either this is an extremely amazing fake, or it is real, because it seems to show a creature with musculature moving under it's fir. It does NOT look like a man in a suit walking along a creek, in Northern California. And contrary to some people's confessions, claims and personal beliefs, it has not been proven to be a hoax.

Mankind is discovering all kinds of new, and even some of what was previously thought to be extinct, life on our planet everyday. There are places on this planet where mankind does not live, or frequently visits. It is easy for creatures to hide.

The possibility is extremely high that these creatures are Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti... Bears... or something... other than human hoaxters!

And yes, as you said aer71367-313-155069, some people believe in Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti some much, that laws have been created to make it a crime in places like Washington State to kill one.
