How come this board only goes back 20 months?

I have been an IMDB subscriber since 1999. It has been, and still is, an invaluable source of information for me, as it probably is for any movie buff. The message boards (or 'fora') not in the last place.

Why is it, then, that in many cases IMDB only displays recent message board interactions? Presently, this message board only goes back to July 2012. I find that ridiculous. I am certain that there have been many more valuable user responses prior to July 2012, and I would certainly enjoy reading through them, in order to find the topics that I like.

Can anyone tell me why IMDB restricts the access to earlier message so sharply? I know that my question is not very specific to the 'I, Claudius' board, but it is here that I feel the most frustrated because I knew we had several good exchanges back then.

It's all very mysterious, whatever formula IMDB uses.

'Seinfeld' has 28 pages of posts...going back only 4 months or so.

On the 'Film General' board--I myself hardly ever peruse the Main Message Boards--I stopped counting at 200 pages of posts going back only a month and a half!

If they have a finite amount of space to store this stuff, I suppose they use some sort of formula depending on the activity of the board.

I know your question has been asked before, but I don't recall a definitive answer...unfortunately the boards don't have a search feature to try and find other threads about this.

It is a bit weird. I've been on forums which have posts from 2006. Why this one should be any different, I don't know.

I Claudius is responsible for me wanting to study ancient history. I watched it, with one of my brothers, on a small, black and white portable TV. He was 14, I was 10 and supposed to be in bed.

Bloody marvellous stuff!

I agree. Some boards should not be touched. The last time I was here, there were so many great threads. .
