Glittering Prizes, television series

Hi, can anybody tell me what the theme music for the series is? Incidentally, it was used for the BBC radio production of Daniel Deronda.

Thanks for your help,

Simon

I think it's something by Vaughan-Williams, maybe from a symphony (hope that narrows it down a bit !) Heard it 10 years ago in a visitors centre at lake Windemere but can't remember how it was identified as V-W.

By the way, do you know the name of the Italian song that's used (instrumentally) at the end of Ep 1 ?

After title music, EP 1 opens with Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White (is it the Perez Prado version ?)

Having sat by the TV at home with a cable and portable casette player at the end of 1978 (the repeat run here in Australia) at the end of high school, some of these I first knew from their use in this series.

Hope this helps,

Greg

It's actually by Gustav Holst, the Brook Green Suite: Prelude: Allegretto:

I remember about twenty years ago hearing that so-familiar passage on, I think, WKAR-FM, the public radio station in East Lansing, Michigan, then rushing out to a Lansing-area music store, and buying it on a CD which also included works by Vaughan Williams. So the previous poster gets props for proximity, wot?

Enjoy, brother Glittering Prizes fans, and remember August 12, the release date for the DVDs!!!

Thanks Scott.

Must be ESP: This is the first time I have looked at this thread for a year, and I see that you posted just two days ago.

Wow, did I have the hots for Barbara Kellerman, even before she sat at the Dean's table topless! Beautiful and Jewish: in my personal experience the two rarely went together. However, living in Israel has disabused me of that observation.

I'll try to download the music and relive my memories.

Mine just arrived in the post today. Yes, I'd forgotten how good BK looked.
(ironic, incidentally that her character isn't Jewish). Only saw her in "1990" (with Edward Woodward) after that.
By the way, it's Sarah Porter that comes into the Deans office in Ep 5 (set 1970), but I haven't watched that far yet.

Barbara Kellerman didn't sit at the dean's table topless.

She did lean over his desk, though.

Didn't Dinsdale Landen get pissed and fall on a table in episode V?
