Aspect Ratios

First of all I would like to say that I am just THRILLED that Family has FINALLY been released for all of us to watch and enjoy again! My kids are getting to see this series for the first time, and they are actually loving it. I was afraid to haul them all into the living room to sit down and watch with me, for fear they would poohoo it and not really give it a chance. But by just putting it on the tv on a quiet winter day around the house, they all made their way in, one by one, and now they are hooked! :) My 17 year old daughter, whose middle name is Letitia :), is finally getting to see her namesake in action! Although I am rediscovering that Buddy was much more like my other daughter, but oh well, we are just having fun... and I had forgotten what a WONDERFUL big brother Willie was... maybe I always secretly liked him, but ugh! the hair! hehe

Anyway! I was thoroughly enjoying every minute until today when we got to Season 2, the episode called 'Jury Duty'... as the story began to roll, I immediately was like 'what is wrong with their faces?'... I kept adjusting my glasses and making sure they were free of any smudges that might be effecting my vision, but they were fine. It didn't take me long to realize that everybody was 'scrunched', top to bottom, and 'stretched', side to side. Like watching current television on a new widescreen tv. There were the black bars at the top and bottom of my screen, as though I was watching a 'theater' movie that was in it's original widescreen format. I was so freaked out as it became more and more irritating to watch, thinking that maybe every episode, from there on out, would be in this widescreen format... and WHY?... it wasn't filmed that way, why stretch them out just to accomodate those who have gone out and purchased the new widescreen tv's??

THANKFULLY, when I got to 'Jury Duty, Part 2', it was back to it's normal aspect ratio and everybody looked good again!!! :)

SONY, listen up peeps!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... DO NOT do that again!! lol
I know, like you give a rip what I think, but it's so much better if you just leave it the way it was made in the first place... it was absolute torture watching that one episode with everybody's faces, and even the cars, looking stretched and everything. I mean, a stretch Lincoln Towncar is fine, but not Doug's old 1970's whatever that little brown car was! lol

Thank you for listening (I pray)! :)

Doug's car was either a Ford Maverick or a Comet. Their bodies were pretty much alike in the 1970's.

lol... well, thank you! hehe... wasn't necessarily expecting someone to clarify that part of what i said, but it's cool to see an answer here, nonetheless! :) I do remember it being mentioned in one of the episodes, i believe, but couldn't remember exactly what and didn't bother trying to find the mention to quote it accurately... but Maverick sounds more familiar to me than Comet, so I'm going to assume that is the correct one. Thanks again. :)

In the pilot, when Buddy is caught driving, the guy who reports it calls it a Maverick.

Slotted spoons don't hold much soup . . .
