How many women did Richard Dawson kiss?

Someone ought to figure this out. It would make a great bit of trivia! If you watched this show back in the '70s, like I did, you probably thought it was hilarious how Dawson always kissed (on the mouth, yet) every single woman who appeared on the show. Young, old, fat, thin, blind, crippled or crazy, it made no difference to Dawson. He did more than 3,500 shows as the host of the Feud, so clearly he kissed a lot of women in his day. I'd love to know exactly how many!

I WATCH FAMILY FEUD HOSTED BY Richard Dawson ON GSN, AT THE MOMENT HE STIL HAS BLACK HAIR, BUT I HEARD THAT WHEN HE FINISHED HOSTING FAMILY FEUD IN 1995 HE HAD WHITE HAIR, CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME IF IN THE 90'S HE STILL USED TO KISS WOMEN IN THE MOUTH? BECAUSE MAYBE IT WAS SEEN AS A NORMAL CUSTOM IN THE 70'S

reply

NO he didnt kiss the women when he returned to the show. I think it had to do with the fact that he had a daughter and he was a family man now.

reply

It was wrong when he originally did it.

reply

Even if he didn't get any diseases, he must have gotten sick a lot because many of those women must have been sick or had colds.

reply

Alas an act of common courtesy, Richard Dawson was a kind and gentle man.

reply

If that ugly *beep* kissed MY wife/girlfriend.. his ass would be on the floor bleeding from every *beep* hole on his goddamn face. The hell was his problem?

reply

I believed his asked the women before the show if they wanted to be kissed.

Son, you got a panty on your head.

reply

It's a good thing that one can't get AIDS from kissing or Richard wouldn't have made it past season 2! LOL

reply

I'm confused... is this a racist joke?

I like the Family Guy episode where the griffins were on family Feud, and Peter got into a fight with Richard because he DIDN'T kiss Lois.

I remember when Richard Dawson was hosting "Family Feud" and a comedian said on tv that Richard Dawson was probably responsible for spreading herpes to untold numbers of women on the show.

I do recall one episode of the show, when they had the wives of (I believe) the Dallas Cowboys on the show, and one extremely attractive African-American woman/wife turned her face so that Richard Dawson could only kiss her on the cheek. (And kudos to that lady, I say!!!)

If you ever saw the special on the Game Show Network about the great "Match Game," you might have been surprised to hear how the late Brett Somers could not stand Richard Dawson when he appeared frequently on the "Match Game." Ms. Somers said she was delighted when Richard Dawson did NOT give a correct match to the contestant on the $5,000.00 question. "Good, he blew it," she recalled saying.

Ms. Somers also remembered that when the celebrity panelists would break between shows for lunch or dinner, Mr. Dawson would always avoid dining with everyone else and eat by himself.

And, Betty White opined that she thought that Richard Dawson was, at heart, a very unhappy man.

So much for all the phony bonhommie on that show, I guess.

I did get to watch an episode of Match Game this week and it reminded me why I never used to watch it when it first aired: Brett Somers. She wasn't funny, but often wasted show time in the belief she was, so it made it hard to determine if Charles was pretending to be annoyed with her or if it was genuine dislike.

Should there be any fans of the woman reading this, I will say she must have been amazing during the rest of her career, because she is the worst panelist on this, or possibly any, game show.

I did enjoy when the children were brought out and the panel joke became, "Am I your daddy/mommy?" and in referring to Brett, Richard suggested, "Am I your granny?" It didn't seem like it was meant to be funny, just insulting.

If Brett Somers was going to lunch with the group, it's easy to understand why Richard preferred to eat alone.

Betty White may have been more accurate, or it's just possible he was just a private, introverted type personality.

There are a few stories about Dawson's behavior behind the scenes and sadly we will probably never know the truth. All I know is I don't give a damn how many woman Richard Dawson kissed, I know that he was a great host. He was very funny and talented. Also, I would think that probably back then the producers would ask the women if they had like a cold sore or something. Diseases weren't didn't run as rapid as they do today. Also, the women were giving the opinion whether to be kissed or not. Times were different back then.

Lol that's all right, but I just pulled the quote from Dan Rather from his book "The Camera Never Blinks." It's actually a pretty good book. But a journalist in my opinion needs to just inform us not persuade us.

The answer is: All of them and a few of the men too. (Mostly on the cheek of course.)
