What happened to Tom?
Anyone shed any light on why the character of Tom (of nettle wine infamy) was played by a different actor in series 3? Just curious.....I didn't get where I am today without being curious

shareawwww, I love Tom

I wanna try some wine please!!
It has been years (decades, actually) since I've seen The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, but besides the premise of the show, I still remember Tom's Nettle Wine. Grot was one of the greatest business concepts ever - I've occasionally wondered why this wasn't tried in real life.

It was... haven't you ever been inside a pound shop? : D

Tom and CJ were my two main reasons for watching RP. Although a little reliant on catchphrases they were both brillinatly drawn, flawed characters - CJ's pomposity and ignorance was obvious even without the catchphrase and Tom was a sad, boring individual (and yes, a bearded prig) probably frustrated at his inability to be what his wife wanted him to be.

According to imdb, the original actor came back later and reprised the role.
The guy who took over in series 3 appeared 30 years later as the crabby security guard in THE SMOKING ROOM.

He also had a small part in Clockwise.
shareCorrect. He reprised the role in the 1996 series 'The legacy of Reginald Perrin' along with most of the original cast.

I thought the "replacement" Tom was a poor casting choice..the original actor was a perfect boring whole earth prig, the new guy just looked like a pouch eyed grump.
