Why does Alice NEVER wear her cap?

The other 2 waitresses did, why didn't she?

I think she only wore it on the first episode and that was it.

Ha...interesting...

I'm thinking Linda Lavin was a tad insecure about her star charisma, especially with someone like Polly Holiday around who unwittingly stole most every scene. Therefore, I'm guessing she insisted on being the only one of the three not to sport the cap.

(Of course, I'm just theorizing here.)

Sounds like a pretty valid theory to me. At the time, there were plenty of implications about Ms. Lavin being a bit of a prima donna, and not wearing that goofy cap like the other two was probably a subtle nod to that...

Well in the later episodes I think Vera didn't wear hers as much, but the 3rd waitress always did.

Flo, Belle and Jolene always wore it.

Another funny thing... when Flo was on, she was the only one to wear the waitress uniform with pants from time-to-time. After Flo left, Alice was the only one to do that from time to time---plus, that's when Alice's hair got shorter and lighter and her earrings got bigger

I twas probably the style change, they were moving into the 80s about when Flo left.

I noticed that too. And Alice was the only one to wear a change (tip?)purse around her waist. It was red.

You can't go on blaming yourself forever. Just blame yourself once, then move on.

Flo and Vera both wore that handkerchief like thing pinned to their uniform. Alice never did.

I liked those handerchiefs.. they were pretty and were a nice touch to the uniform, very feminine...

Alice did wear a waitress cap, but only early in the show
