I had no idea anyone besides me remembered this series.....

But I got lucky --

My late mother, who was a vcr nut when she could finally afford one, back in the 80s, taped everything she was interested in -- tv series, classic movies, etc. One of the shows she insisted on taping was this one. Our local PBS station re-ran the series some time in the 1980's -- uncut! Last year, I transferred my tapes to DVD -- so I now own this fabulous series. I gave my tapes to another John Adams fan who had never seen the series.

Thanks, Mom!

it was in 1987 I think...

Unfortunately, I missed a couple of episodes and that ones I did tape were to Beta!!! LOL

I, too, remember this mini-series. Maybe in light of the new HBO series on John Adams, this one will be re-released.

I think another poster indicated this series will be released some time in May..."

Trust me you aren't the only one. I fell in love with American History because of it. I actually met George Grizzard years ago when he was doing Judgement at Nurembourg on Broadway. He said this was is his favorite role ever

"These are only shadows of the real world..."

Fantastic. Actually I fell in love with the period after seeing William Daniels in the musical 1776, and this series just drove the point home!

I haven't seen the HBO series yet, except for a little bit when I was in Portland OR on a business trip.

So great you got to meet Grizzard, though!

What I saw of it was worthwhile but somewhat disappointing, particularly in its characterization of John Quincy Adams. It conveyed his stiffness better than his intensity, his sense of responsibility better than the violent drama of his congressional career.
