Tragedy on first date movies

I remember seeing this at the theatres way back when. Paul Le Mat was fresh off American Graffitti and was pegged as an upcoming star to look out for.

This movie did only so-so business though. I recall seeing him in a couple of other middling movies, then he was gone. IMDB tells me he worked steadily for another twenty years or so.

I rem seeing this when it came out, dont recall too much,
i get confused with this one and Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry with the rail road train at the ending
