A new "Black Dahlia" movie is currently in production. Hopefully all the spin and controversy over this new (scheduled for 2006 release) film will shake loose the 1975 TV movie from NBC's video vaults.

I watched it tonight and I believe that it is terrible. It is not something that could be shown on TV. I cannot remember the 1975 TV movie well enough to say whether or not the new release has anything to do with it. I wouldn't recommend this release to my worst enemy.

The remake is a good movie if they left the last 30 minutes off!! DePalma is trying to solve the murder while grasping for straws for evidence. The TV version is greatly superior. Now if they would only air it again or release it on DVD

Brian De Palma's 3-hour director's cut, highly praised by original novelist James Ellroy, was studio-slashed by an entire HOUR. The result was to render a complex story nearly incomprehensible.

Doctor Mabuse, Evil Genius, King of Crime

Ellroy's book is a work of fiction anyway.
