DVD release?

I haven't seen this film in about 20 years and I would like to see it released on dvd. I don't remember too much about it, but I remember that it was post apocalyptic movie set in New York and it reminded me of Omega Man and Soylent Green in that it dealt with a futuristic New York.

I have requested that Warner Brothers put this film on DVD and to no avail. Hopefully someday. It deserves to be on DVD.

I second the notion that this fine, thrilling and unjustly overlooked ahead-of-its-time 70's post-nuke sci-fi/action favorite come out on DVD already. The climactic fight between Yul Brynner and William Smith alone makes this baby a keeper. Moreover, the film was basically a blueprint for such latter entries in the genre as "Mad Max" and especially "Escape from New York."

"Warren Oates died for our sins"

reply

Well, according to Amazon.com, there will be a DVD Release for the Ultimate Warrior, not a release date yet but there shall be soon. Hopefully.

I agree that the final scene does make this film a keeper, but to me any film with William Smith in it is a keeper. I've been a fan for a long time and I love the guy! One of film's best villan actors!

Cheers!!

Hey dude - how can I get this DVD version? Being Aussie my German is a bit ordinary and I can't work out how to buy off the site - would appreciate any advice. Cheers.

reply

hi
there are several german sellers on ebay who are selling copies of this film
mine just arrived and its an official release

reply

Does it have the English track or is it German only?

reply

I also got the German DVD recently fronm eBay. It's 1.78:1 Widescreen for 16:9 TV. Nice copy and yes - an official release. This DVD can be viewed with just the English track and no subtitles. Of course it's in German as well.

reply

thank you Elsa!

This's one of those childhood movies I'll never forget. It may never win any Oscars, but it's one of those classic old movies they'd show every so often on Channel 44. Along with the ultra cheesy "Wolfen" =D

reply

You're welcome, grillmasterj

It's the same for me - one of those childhood movies that I watched every time it came on TV (I'm in UK)and always enjoyed. I enjoyed it even more on this DVD as I think it's the first time I've seen the whole movie - on TV I always missed bits and pieces for one reason or another. I've got the DVD out on the table now and am looking forward to another viewing in a couple of days. Never get tired of this one.

I got the german dvd-release and it's anamorphic widescreen, uncut and the quality is okey. It's an official release from Warner in Germany.

It's easy to buy it from xploitedcinema.com, a US-company that imports rare dvds. I bought mine from there, and I live in Sweden.

reply

damn...I missed your post by about 2 wks. Oh well. Paid about $5, but still worth it. Glad to finally see this movie again.

I have to figure out how to re-flash my dvd-rw drive though, no macs will play it, and my external drive has only one region change left before it gets locked in apparently. Shouldn't be too hard though.

U.S. DVD is coming out July 29. It's a Best Buy-exclusive double feature w/ Battle Beneath the Earth. The other discs in the series are World Without End / Satellite in the Sky and When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth / Moon Zero Two.

reply

Available on Ebay with Battle beneath the Earth. Now when are they going to release Damnation Alley?

reply

I just picked up my copy from a local Best Buy for $16.99; it's on a snazzy doublebill with "Battle Beneath the Earth."

"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"

I got the same double feature at Best Buy. The transfer and sound are pretty good; unfortunately, no extras.

"The truth 24 times a second."

I'm glad it FINALLY got a U.S. release. It's also been posted all over the internet...

Finally ordering it today after all these years, lol. I have it as an AVI but want a "offical" copy.
