I took several attempts at getting thru this charmless dross and eventually gave up. About as funny as cancer and devoid of wit. It actually looks like Tim and Michael and the other guy decided to make a home movie on a weekend break.
Hard to believe Stoppard was involved.
i found it very disappointing. the book is very funny, but they didn't do it justice at all, it was a strange, subdued production. i recently read micAel palin's diaries, in which he discusses this production, and he says he found working on it exhausting, the rowing etc. i don't get the impression that he enjoyed making it. he is obviously piqued by the reviw in the The Times which criticised the production for its lack of humour, but i think The Times got it right.
