shareI agree and that was exactly what I thought when I read it. I think he may have been trying to turn in a different direction though at the time and I suppose he may have thought he was in danger of type-casting himself in the political thriller/drama mold after Condor, All the Presidents Men and The Candidate

None of those rank . . . he had powerful support in each of those films . . . in Condor, he's the sole male lead . . . and carries the production . . . much harder to do . . . yet, he achieved it . . . so he gets high marks . . .

As a political thriller its stood the test of time and is fun and entertaining. It also shows what a good leading man he was in his prime.

Yes . . . and he must carry the production on his own . . . he doesn't have Newman (or Shaw--in The Sting) to fall back on, or Out of Africa, which is more of a Meryl Streep movie . . . in Condor he really earns his salary . . . he keeps it all together . . . even with the odd ending . . .

I presume by Africa you are talking about Out Of Africa, which still makes me cringe every time I think of Meryl Streep's totally over the top accent continually saying 'arrr-freeee-caaaaaaah.. arrr-freeee-caaaaaah'
shareI'm assuming she was playing someone Danish . . . I guess that's how they pronounce the name of the continent they were inhabiting . . . Redford is not at all memorable in the part . . . though I must say the cinematography was beautiful . . .
