DVD?

Does anybody know if there is or will be a DVD of this film? This is one of the last films on my personal "must-see-list" I never ever had the possibility to...

reply

DVD is sold as "Theo Angelopoulos corpus DVD-BOX 1" in Japan.
"Days of 36" and "The Huntsmen" are also stored in this DVD-BOX.

Oh thank you!
In between I found out myself that Artificial Eye obviously wants to publish several Angelopoulos-Films, among them "the travelling players". So I won't have to buy (I'm from Germany) a Region 1-Player...:-) But thanks anyway.

This film joins Cassavettes' Faces, The Colour of Pomegranates and Godards' Weekend as the worst films I have ever seen. Incredibly dull and tedious. Those who given it 10 must be Greek nationals, descendants of Greek nationals or married to one.

Is that so? - What a pity.

Each time I watch one of these three films, I'm so involved with it, every single moment.

I don't know if they're bad.
I just want to see them over and over again.

I like it, when I always make a new, complex experience, watching the same film several times.

"Faces", "Pomegranate" and "Weekend" are excellent examples for that...

Alright, you persuaded me: I gotta see "The traveling players" at last...

reply

I'm not really sure how you could have found Weekend dull, or Faces for that matter, oh well

I am not Greek nor of Greek descent. I gave it a 10 stars neverthless (I also wrote the detailed synopsis).

Yeah I'm (still) looking myself for a copy--ANY copy--here stateside, while I don't except a DVD copy would be available to rent through Netflix, having it available to stream--through there, Hulu, Mubi, etc--would sure be nice (or even better to download? Heh...).

It really is the opposite of what you say. Greeks hate Angelopoulos and his movies. As one friend told me 'what the hell are you showing us the inside of the room for ten minutes, are we going to buy it?' I'm Canadian of Greek descent and went to see the 'Weeping Meadow'; hated it, pretentious, pseudo arty, boring crap, the people behind me, Canadians, LOVED it, coming out of the theater one of them remarked 'that was F*&%ING AMAZING' I didn't quite agree with him. Even though I find 'The Travelling Players' a pretty good film, or 'The Beekeeper" everything else is pretty pretentious.

So have you seen this movie?

Do you like it?

A beautiful 2 set copy is for sale for 7.00 at allcluesnosolutions.com. This is a very trustworthy store and offers many obscure titles. I have purchased here several times without a problem. Check them out.
