Point?

I just saw this on some HBO channel and i got confused at the end (mind you i missed the first 15 minutes).

If the whole thing was a sting operation and everyone of the "hijackers" on the plane were cops - why did he act at the end and let McShane's character get killed? Why couldn't he just let the English spies handle it? It seems like he got the guy killed for no reason.

Any thoughts? Otherwise this movie was C- at best.

I have no idea.
And if the whole thing was a sting op,there weren't any bombs on the plane?
The script is awfully confusing to me,as if the writer changed his mind at the last second.

Seems like the ending is there just to satisfy Connery's character ego

*SPOILERS*

I know I'm responding to an old post, but I just finished watching this, and I think that was a piss poor ending to an otherwise good movie. Connery exposes the policeman to the terrorist? What the heck was that all about? The British got their man, no loss of life, and Connery comes on board and gets people killed. Just a terrible ending. Did Connery actually write the ending, or change it to fit maybe his ego? Just bad.

That does make sense now, I'll have to rewatch it at some point. Thanks for the post and explanations.

the explanation post gets deleted? lol! can you tell me what exactly happened at the end?

Sean Connery was the head of security for the minister of Scandinavia. He was said to be a hard liner which did not agree with any sort of capitulation to terrorists. So, the fact that the British secret service was hijacking the plane to capture another terrorist went against his ethics. In other words, he did not like his country, or their airliner being used by the British. Connery blows the cover to precipitate a chaotic mess to further his mini plan to finally take down everyone acting as a terrorist, British spy or true revolutionary terrorist. In other words, he had no allegiance to either of them. To him they were all idiots.

To him they were all idiots.
Well he was right wasn't he, including the writer and director of this bizarre little unknown film? Hard to believe Sean Connery left the Bond franchise to make "gems" like this.🐭

reply

Like other posters I also enjoyed the movie until the senseless actions by Connery's character at the end.

Did the writers or director just get tired or lazy at the end? Who knows.
