I recently went to Gran Canaria where the picture was shot and visited the town set from the opening scene which has become a sort of western theme park. Everything is there exactly as it was in the movie - the main street and church particularly stand out.
Also the surrounding area was used extensively, utilizing the black, volcanic sand of the island and also the dunes of Maspalomas on the southern coast.
