Fun, and great Goldsmith score!

Okay, so this isn't GONE WITH THE WIND. Sit back, enjoy, and have fun. And Jerry Goldsmith, who TRULY knew how to score a western, did one of his best for the genre here.

Yet another example of a great score to a mediocre film. I just listened to it again yesterday. Very memorable music.

Goldsmith was actually criticized for making a score superior to the film.

That was so much the case in his later years, especially after John Williams got all the prestige, high profile films to score. Goldsmith provided superior scores to terrible (but very enjoyable) films such as "The Swarm", "Damnation Alley" and others. His music was often much, much better than the film itself.

I love the part of the score when Jim Brown remembers being a slave in the mines. Goldsmith composed a spiritual-sounding cue that drives home what the character is thinking at that moment. Brilliant and right-on target, as usual.

I concur. This film is a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed the easy'n'breezy chemistry between Jim Brown and Fred Williamson. And that Jerry Goldsmith score was indeed fantastic.
