Saw this on tv as a kid

& just watched it again on Youtube after all these years.

This is one of several movies from the 70's that stayed in the corners of my mind & I'm pretty sure this movie is one of the big reasons why I wanted to be an astronaut. (this & Planet of the Apes) I remember even trying to make my own *working* space craft like the boys did in the film so *I* could fly into space! Yeah. I was in 1st grade. This entire movie is every little kid's dream.

But it was a bit sad looking at it with adult eyes, as that sense of possibility & wonder were no longer there & I found myself noticing its short-comings.
(The use of lots of NASA stock footage, for ex.) And it was def' on the slow side, but then attention spans were longer back in the day.

Still, it was good to revisit it.

Me too! I was 9 when this was aired, and i'm sure it sparked my interest in the space program. I paid a lot of attention to the ASTP mission just a few months later - almost definitely because of this movie.

But I'll agree - watching this with adult eyes, this was ridiculously implausible. Still, a great blast from the past from over 40 years ago.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
