jelly jar comment, huh?

During scene where judges are trying to decide on five finalists, one judge comments that another "really hates jelly jars." Anyone have any idea what this means? Seems like it may be some sort of reference to a remark from an earlier scene--that was possibly cut. Makes no sense in current context.

I think this is an old slang term for a chubby person.

I thought it was a reference to somebody's "talent" that we didn't get to see: playing water-filled jelly jars.

Good question.

I googled it with little to show and I tried the Urban Dictionary.

I think it might mean girls without curves.

A jelly jar would be uncurvy whereas a old coke bottle would be very curvy.

Beauty pageant contestants put Petroleum Jelly on their lips so that their lips don't stick to their teeth when they smile. A case of nerves can make your mouth dry.

I believe the joke is that (since there are other uses for petroleum jelly) she has some experience with it, and has an aversion to petroleum jelly. Hence she 'really hates jelly jars.' 

I think it was a reference to the shape of old-fashioned jelly jars - short and squat... in other words they must've been referring to a contestant who was a short, plump girl.
