It deserves more than 6.4, but not a top 250.

I totally agree the system is WHACK;

but its hard to overlook how the demographics breakdown; Females totally dislike this movies and some male age group rate it pretty low.

Yeah i really liked this movie as well but I guess the people who voted are younger and aren't into older movies, this movie is actually trailing the new Don which is at 6.8 which is really weird.

you obviously have seen ALL the movies to make that statement i suppose ..

Okay This is not the greatest movie ever made,period.
Ever watched the movies in imdb's top 250 list? Exactly!
But was it the best movie of its time when great movies did not exist in India... Yes.
This movie is really a bore to those who do not enjoy typically exaggerated Indian Movies.
In my opinion this movie is probably overrated.

who said it is a rip-off? You can say, a bit inspired. However, The plot, script, charterisation etc., is totally different from the movie(s) it is said to have been inspired. Check the link to get a whole lot of info:

It is a complete movie with good story base, characterization, script and situations well explained, dealth with and justified, unlike most of those western dumb gun-totting movies with no head and tail.

Inspiration doesn't mean complete copying of other's creation. Many Hollywood hit movies are infact a total rip-off of other foreign movies.

Ur last statement says it all. Great movie is like quantam physics and Indians are chaiwalas. If that were fact, the best movies would be cult classics because few very highly educated people would be able to understand them.

Please, tell me what was so great in movies like "Independance Day",that take them to top-100. These were great because these were liked by lots n lots of people. Otherwise, it was just another alien attack movie, with lots of highly placed officials and president of American watching the action on the TV screen. How was it different for dozens and dozens of Science Fiction, holocaust movies made earlier. It just had great cast, and people liked it.

Sholay, was great because it introduced lots of new characters to Hindi Cinema. It was great because it was liked by millions and millions of people.

If your perception of great movie, is what is liked by Western audience, I don't have any objection on that. You can live in your own fool's paradise. But, comparing Indian viewers to chaiwala, is just like comparing an Average American to Pepsi-Chips gobbling fatso, struck on sofa, changing channels just like we see in American comedies. No offence intended here too.

I hate bollywood but this movie is incredible its one of the best and deserves a higher score.

This just shows that the imdb score is abit stupid.

they need to sort it out.
