Hi I watched Shivers many years ago when I was about 15, although I only switched it on the channel it was on about 25 or so minutes in. I was staying up late and saw one of the parasites and thought it looked stupid and could be a horror film I could mock but in the end it left me cold, haunted and nervous for awhile.

The most sickening scene was when that man with the parasite staggered into the elevator with the mother and her young daughter? Is that to say then that all three of them had some kind of threesome? Since the parasite is sexual? Wouldn't that be paedophillia? O____O

Also, that old man who makes out with that blonde woman and says: "You remind me of my daughter.." Is that supposed to actually BE his daughter?

Have you ever asked yourself where you get your sexual norms from.
Ive always used the example of ancient sparta where a child was given to an adult to act as a rolemodel and sexual partner. Is this peadophila (iunderstand it is in the physical sence) if they are both engaged in a loving mutualy supportive relationship that society approves of where is the harm.

Peadophilia causes harm in our society because it is carried out by Patriarchal fools who through the ritual of sexual abuse seek to master their own sexual urges. In a twisted logic the child becomes the patriarchs sexual urges and through controlling the child he creates illusionary control over those urges.

In a way.

But he's saying that pedophilia is harmful and considered disgusting only because of the way men handle it and use it. Men use it in a way that's harmful to both parties while creating the illusion of settling the urges. He does cite good examples that what's disgusting in one society is normal in others.

Hell in many countries young girls are given to older men as sacrifices, bartering, and as potential wives.

He makes a point, but... I'm not going to say I agree that pedophilia is okay.

Yes. Oh yes.

It's very likely the mom was ravaged by him, and then he ravaged the daughter. Cronenberg doesn't hit us over the head with it, though. He only shows him nibbling on her hair while the mom is lying with her legs open. He does it where the implication is obvious, but it's not so obvious it becomes gratuitous. And she even kisses the security guard, so there's the implication there of an orgy between the two men and the mom and her daughter.

There's really no line drawn in "Shivers." Incest, homosexuality, pedophilia, it's all there.

If I remember correctly the parasite can be passed via a simple ‘kiss’ so it’s possible that he raped the mother then ‘kissed’ the child. Still ew but not full blown child rape.
