Second movie soundtrack for E W + F

Earth, Wind & Fire was at the beginning of their meteoric rise to superstardom when the made their appearance in this movie. Their music heard throughout the movie pales in comparison to the Columbia album of the same name where it shines brightly, in the film their music is poorly edited and one can hear the sequence jumps and they mostly convert them to instrumental tracks eliminating the vocals.

Curiously in 1971 at the early stage of their career, E, W, & F in their original jazz funk fusion format they provided the soundtrack for Melvin van Peebles's seminal film, Sweet Sweetback's Badassss Song, the album was recorded for the Stax Records label out of Memphis.

When founder Maurice left his home town of Chicago and the Ramsey Lewis Trio from whom he was the drummer, he landed in Los Angeles and formed Earth, Wind and Fire, they recorded 2 above average jazz fusion albums for Warner Brothers that registered average sales after recieving some airplay at jazz and adult music stations. After WB failed to re-sign them they recorded their soundtrack for Sweet Badasss then Maurice White revamped the group bringing in vocalists Phillip Bailey and Jessica Cleaves and began recording for Columbia scoring some substantial hits and obtaining very good sales, 2 albums later Jessica Cleaves left to raise her newborn child, they recorded another album and then hit the big time with That's the Way of the World
