Source of plot for Blind Date?

Just saw this on tcm. If nothing else it demonstrates Catherine Deneuve's impressive range. If the basic story sounds familiar, it's because Blind Date, filmed 11 years later with wacky hot girl Kim Basinger, hapless guy Bruce Willis and crazed fiancé John Larroquette, follows the same blueprint. Both are worth watching.
