Scared the bejesus out of me!

Im glad to read that other people who saw this film, were equally *beep* themselves when that creepy dude in the plane starting smilling. Was the first 'horror' I ever saw, and I swear to god, I could not go to sleep for days afterwards!!

Would be mad to see it again......funny but mad! Hehe

SAME!!! I was only 13 and up to that point I had never experienced true fear! I surely did that night! That creepy laugh at the end almost made me jump out of my skin!!!

LOL the end is the part I remember the most, where Alejandro Rey is laughing in the helicopter. I was 12 when this came on TV in 1975 and it scared the poop out of me. I wish I could find this movie on DVD. I haven't seen it in decades.

This movie had a terrific plot twist, what I call an "Oh, ****!" moment.

An "Oh, ****!" moment is when the writer catches you off-guard and you're convinced that you know what's going on...and in the space of a few short moments, that illusion is completely shattered as you realize that everything has gone to hell and the characters are in some really deep doo-doo.

In this film, the "Oh, ****!" moment is when the Coast Guard captain starts to tell Haig that they found something other than what Haig reported...and Eva, in the helicopter with Haig, begins to smile evilly. The moment is complete when the captain tells Haig that they found a woman, and Haig looks over at "Eva", who (now that the jig is up) has turned into Fr. Martin.

And of course they capitalize on that moment at the end when Fr. Martin "dies" and Haig comes back to life, and you realize that this whole chain of events is going to be repeated with the next ship. That's creepy!

A smile that's not appropriate has always been one of the most scary things to me, It's people lying to you with body language, or worse letting you know you've fell into a trap! The other creepy smile I remember the most is the little girl bait from the 80's movie The Island. Ugh!

What is it about being dead that makes me so horny?

This movie is a masterpiece. It is the scariest I've ever seen, and it's a crime it's not available on dvd.

I remember seeing this on tv thinking it was going to be a Sci-Fi sort of Bermuda Triangle movie. The ending scared me so bad, I woke up screaming later. While my mother calmed down my siblings, my dad(RIP) took me downstairs and we talked about the ending. Then he kept me up for an hour more and we talked about my comics, toys, cartoons, whatever...anything to get my mind off the movie. I didn't have another nightmare about this film. My dad was a man with God given genius. I thank God everyday for the forty six years I had him. There were times we disagreed and he had his flaws but he was, to me, DAD.
And I never watched this film again.

I saw this movie when I was a kid. Scared the hell out of me. Recently I tracked down the various videos online and rewatched the ending, and the scared the hell out of myself again.

@RussellDunn: like you, my mother talked to me about the end. Not to allay my fear or anything, but she explained to me why it was better for the pilot to die than for Doug McClure's character to live. Kim Novak was extremely creepy in the helicopter but Alejandro Rey was just frightening - any vestiges of his The Flying Nun character just (pardon the pun) went to hell during that scene.

neat . . . sweet . . . petite
