Remake in the pipeline?

First off i love this film ever since seeing it as a kid, it's not the best acting or cinematography ever put to film but the storyline is superb, the whole concept of it is very sinister, the devil/priest has the same presence as the old priest guy out of Poltergeist, i wonder if they got the idea from this film?

Has it ever been remade? if not why not? Im not a great fan of remakes but i think it could be good if done right and often remakes turn the people onto the original, otherwise this gem will remain a cult classic that is widely unknown to the younger generation.

If it were remade now, it would be relegated to late night cable showings on Chiller or Syfy or Spike, or something like.

The thing that contributes most greatly to the mythos of the movie is the fact that it is so rarely seen. I left a thread a few months ago about an auction site that claims to have copies of it for sale, but I'm not interested.

If the movie is going to be relegated to late night showings anyway, then they should just show the original. Perhaps show it at 10pm several nights in a row around Halloween .

I'm not sure I'd watch it again. I recently watched the last 10 minutes of youtube - it was around 1 in the morning and I couldn't sleep. BIG mistake. I was so disturbed I couldn't sleep the rest of the night and had the willies for a week.
