Who else really hated Jonathan E?

I couldn't muster up an ounce of feeling for the cocky, self-centered, and admittedly ugly main character. Everything about him gave me a headache.
I'm sure I definitely wouldn't want to be friends with him if I knew him in real life.

WOW. That's, uh, an interesting take on the character.

I thought he was awesome.

After his friend got cold-cocked Caan was the only real human left in the film. He was cocky because that's what many star atheletes are. Part of what they attain is with physical ability and some brains. The rest is winning attitude. To star atheletes they aren't cocky, just confident in themselves. I'm not saying it's good, but it's real.

Exactly, case in point the karate briefing session. Jonathan E cheers on Moonpie when he vocally overpowers the tutor. Brawn over brains, 'feeling mean' is the most important, and E loves it. I think it reflects interestingly on our view on sports - moral doesn't apply in the arena - when the main character isn't questioned more.

You hated Jonathan E? Wow, I've never heard anyone describe the character like that.

And truthfully, if you don't like this kind of person, it's highly unlikely that they'd like you either. So not to worry, you'd run no risk of befriending a person like this.

More science, less fiction.

Jonathan E didn't have a lot. He was miserable about his wife leaving him. I got the impression his only close friend was Moonpie.

I take it you're a high level corporate exec. Or, you're in love with one.
