Glee destroyed this....

am i the only one that completely hated what glee did to this?

it was probably the worst Rocky horror related anything ive ever seen... it was so atrocious I try to block it from my memory...

It's almost like they wanted to insult the movie/play. I mean, wtf? seriously how can they mess up something so badly? It was pretty much disgusting to watch.

It's like, Were they actually trying to ruin Rocky Horror? were they trying to turn people away? I seriously cannot see their version of Rocky as being a good tribute or anything. It was annoying and embarrassing to watch (specially sweet transvestite. What the Actual F----)
I know i sound bitter, but seriously wtf were those people thinking? It was almost like they were trying to mock it or something.

I went on Wikipedia and I see that critics hate it and I see that even Richard O'Brien was disappointed with it....

But I never really hear any Rocky horror fans say anything about it..

One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

reply

I didn't mind the Glee version so much... It was just extremely watered down!

reply

I don't know, Riff Raff with autotune? what the f---
Dr. Frank-N-Furter played by that girl... singing with her style of R&B singing... That's just like an insult to me...

I like Glee but IMO I do think they ruin things sometimes, this being one of them. I get the "make it their own thing" but it just wasn't for me.

reply

Glee destroys every single song they've ever done. Worst show ever.

reply

agreed-Frank is not some fat black girl

reply

I love Glee's take on the music. Yes, even Amber Riley's Sweet Transvestite. I actually prefer her version. Very catchy less talky.

However it is also the version that cocked it up by changing "Is Really to Blame" to "Isn't Really to Blame". This is totally wrong and also makes no sense in respect of the lyrics before and after it.

Let Zygons Be Zygons.

@Norman

That "fat black girl" has more talent than you ever will, thank you very much. That being said, I never liked GLEE----could never get into it for some reason. Besides, it just seemed like nothing but an update of the popular '80s musical show FAME (based on the popular film.)

reply

No, she does not. I have performed in over 50 plays including Shakespeare and have won numerous awards in regional theater. Shes hardly more talented than me.
Im also a novelist with four published novels
I think she's talented, but she was a bad Frank.
Now kindly *beep* off-you dont know me or her!

I'm bothered by it too Glee totally ruined it I hate Glee enough as it is then they ruined this..

I saw the Glee episode before I even watched RHPS but after seeing RHPS and thinking back to the Glee episode (though I don't remember all of the details from it) I have to agree.

I think if Glee dida good job with it then it would have made me want to go see RHPS right away but the episode did nothing of the sort. In fact I think it made me sort of not want to see it, I don't think it really captured RHPS it was too cutesy or censored or something I don't know. I love Amber Riley's voice but I don't get why they wouldn't have just had a guy play Frank. That was weird. I'm going to have to watch it again now that I've seen RHPS but I don't really want to subject myself to that.

reply

I understand they couldn't use a guy to play Frank but what I don't get is why didn't they use one of the other girls, I don't want to sound mean or anything, but what I hated is that the girl that did frank was not even really dressed like Frank, They could have at least make the costume accurate and have someone else be the character.

I still get really pissed about the whole Glee thing... thanks for reminding me

reply

Agreed. I hadn't seen RHPS before I saw the Glee episode (I have friends who'd talk about it and post pictures of themselves in shadowcast and stage costumes and I interviewed a woman who turned out to be a chorus member and an understudy in the original Roxy cast of the stage version), but I snatched up the DVD when I saw it for sale at a store.

Amber Riley's Mercedes as Frank didn't work because she just looked like a girl in a skimpy costume. Frank is supposed to be a gender bending character. Other women have successfully played Frank (one of my friends is a woman who played Frank until she decided age had caught up with her), but Mercedes is boldly feminine, and her way of belting out tunes just didn't work for "Sweet Transvestite." (Back to the costume thing, "transvestite" is someone who cross-dresses.)

I get that part of it was to make the "Rocky Horror" theme safe for network TV, but honestly, Glee was rolling with the ratings well enough to not need a RHPS episode. RHPS is a little dirty, embrace it.

What we see and what we seem are but a dream. A dream within a dream.

Yes, they did! I don't get why they added SO much auto tune to everyone's voice. Also if the girl was Dr. Franknfurter and she was a transvestite, wouldn't she dress/act like a guy? It just doesn't make sense. The original was so unique and weird and Glee just turned it into a PG, watered down version of an awesome movie.

reply

@Boneitt, LOL, you can't "ruin" something that is innately bad; you can only make it better (if that's EVEN possible)!

There is only one valid attitude to TRHPS and that IS to "mock" it. Get a clue!

reply

tell that to the thousands of fans that genuinely love the movie and the live participation...

yeah, most people thought Rocky sucked back then, but fans now Do love it and the songs have become iconic

if you think the movie is crap you can at least give credit to the songs, which were quite good

Glee ruined those songs people love so much, that's just the truth

reply

No one loves this movie (LOL).

You (as have many others) have (incredibly!) managed to miss the whole point of why the movie is popular - because it is SO bad.

Only genuine freaks could possibly excuse any of it as being actually salvageable.
The poor audio ALONE is enough reason to burn it, lol.

Glee is just an entertaining show that fills a huge gap in TV programming.
Is it overrated? Of course it is; but at least it's no crap.

"defending a piece of garbage like glee while attacking rocky horror"

i think we are done here. it is clear where you stand, don't you have a Kim Kardashian rerun to watch or something?

reply

Yes, we ARE done here, indeed.

(But don't presume my depths run Kardashian-low. Now let me get back to my sitcoms, rom-coms, and all the other good 'coms please.)

reply

let me guess, you love shows that have a laugh track...
you cannot laugh unless you are told by your tv when to laugh? am I right? (you a big " the big Bang theory" fan by any chance?)
kind of sounds like you are that kind of person. gross...

reply

What's a "laugh track"? J/k.
I'm different from you (clearly), likewise, I'm quite CERTAIN you are "gross".

reply

I sat through ONE song they did; The Time Warp. I've never watched the show before and that rendition of the song didn't do any favors in that respect. All it did was turn me off that auto tuned bull *beep* to an even greater extent.

"I have always valued my lifelessness."

reply

Glee is a piece of crap show that only appeals to the dumbest part of society, giving it the illusion of being popular.
