My Dad supposedly OWNED that 1950 Ford for awhile.

That old 1950 Black Ford, used in the movie by the "bad guys", was purportedly sold to my father, in the summer of 1975.

We were on our way back from a vacation in Florida and for SOME reason, we stopped in Georgia, probably for the night. There was a car Lot, I STILL remember the name after all of these years--"Treadwell ford", and my dad saw that black 1950 Ford on the lot. He then was told it was used in the movie "Return to Macon county", and wanted it. The engine, which I think was a straight 6 or 8-- was bad--IIRC it had a cracked block--and my dad paid them to replace it--and his intentions was then to drive it home to Ohio--or have someone else drive it here. I still remember them showing him the "new engine" in a box, in the stock room or such.

However--my dad died a month or less later, in early July. And my mom--facing a LOT of other things, had to bring the car up here. She hired some guy to drive it here--but it would NOT make it far at ALL. He then had to rent a truck--and tow it here.

It was quickly discovered that the engine had NOT been replaced at all. But my mom didn't really feel up to "doing anything about it". Mom didn't really want that old car--and it sat in the driveway for awhile. As a 7 Year old boy--I enjoyed it though--playing in the front and back seat---and also--as with many cars from the time--it had the starter switch on the dash--and I enjoyed pushing that silver button--and hearing the engine crank. I vividly remember that clock in the middle of the dash--and I THINK I did some "tinkering" with it too, as I was a very curious kid, wanting to know how it worked.

Within a year--my mom sold that car--and my dad's 1970 Chrysler 300, which ran fine and looked fine too--as we did NOT need either one of them. IIRC--she got about $500 for the Ford--and I think, $650 for the 300. Big cars like that 300 were NOT in vogue in 1976 or so--and the Ford need a major repair job.

Err...you better straighten that story up.

I bought my F150 from Treadwell Ford. This was in Mobile, Alabama...nowhere near Georgia!

Southern hillbilly stories are never straight and most stories like this....er...I mean would you believe a used car salesman who said this was a movie car and then showed you a new engine that he never put in the car???? Somethin' is screwy in the State of Georgia....me thinks!

Couldn't have been a straight 8, maybe a flathead v8. i don't know about ford 6s at the time, but I assume a straight 6 was a possibility.

The black Ford in the movie is a 1949.
