Last time I saw this movie was about 20 years ago on tv. It was on late at night and didn't see the whole film. From what I remember, it was a well done film and I truly hope the film company who released it to theatres will take the time to preserve this film for future generations and release it to dvd soon.
This is at the very top of my most wanted on DVD list! Since this was originally distributed by AIP, it would go to MGM, who is now owned by SONY. So, it is up to Sony to give us a copy on DVD. Who knows, they released The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, so maybe there is hope.
You probably know this already but the DVD is available on EBAY and ioffer.com It is out of print so they obviously are DVD copies but from my past experience,if you really want it, buy it! Good Luck!
I purchased a copy from ebay about 3 months ago. It's not the greatest quality but it shows the whole movie. I wish Rysher would clean the movie up and make the picture sharper and release it to the public on dvd. I would have rather given Rysher the $20 for a higher quality dvd (uncut of course) than an inferior copy I purchased from Ebay.
I've been looking for this one on DVD, too. I spent a pretty penny to A Million and One Worldwide Videos for a second or third generation copy on VHS format. All I can say is "Better than Nuthin'".
This is why I comb all the used video shops and liquidators in my area because there are so many titles that have not been released on DVD and probably never will be. You never know what can be found in those places.
Some say that VHS is 'dead'. I say far from it... as long as there are a multitude of VHS-only flix not released on DVD.

the DVD's on ebay and iOffer are pretty much crap. somebody just hooked up their Walmart VCR to a DVD recorder and made a copy. Its better to find it on VHS
Dear tallpall: You're right. It's definitely better to have a Vestron Video original of THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD. I think it's funny how many dopey people go out and buy DVD bootlegs of a movie only released on tape and seem surprised when the DVD looks worse than the tape. What do these dum-dums expect? I wonder . . .
If you live in the U.S. why don't you prowl Amazon.com and Half.com and find a Vestron Video original of THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD? I'm sure there are some original Vestron videos of PETER PROUD on Amazon or Half. And besides that on Amazon you can contact the seller and ask if it's an original video. Why buy copies if you don't have to? A second or third generation copy of a movie that's been legitimately released on homevideo is only SLIGHTLY better than nuthin'.
I have the 1985 Vestron Video release. Just watched it again last night. Still plays ok. I got it as an ex-Rental from Blockbuster years ago when they still had a decent selection of movies.
Hard to tell. I wonder who owns the rights to the Bing Crosby Productions library . . .
Whoever it is would own the rights to distribute PETER PROUD.
I'm just glad my Vestron Video still plays ok. Considering it was an Ex-rental it does all right save for one spot on the tape where there's about 7 seconds of snow about 25 minutes into the movie.
There's still lots of movies not available on DVD, to be sure.
The Vestron Video original VHS is pretty hard to find. At the moment there are no copies listed on ebay, half.com or amazon. There is a Video Treasures reissue which is in LP mode, not SP mode; this means inferior picture quality. However, even the Video Treasures version is relatively rare and copies on half.com and ebay range from $30 and up.
Dear pninson: I remember that Video Treasures LP mode release -- I reckon if that's the only way someone can find it it's better than nothing. But not much better!
If mine ever broke I'd hold out 'til I found another Vestron Video.
LP is not too bad but EP/SLP is utter trash. Those low-budget labels such as Starmaker used a form of EP called 'QEP' - Quality Extended Play - but there certainly wasn't very much 'quality' to speak of in the finished product.

Most Rysher and BCP produdced/distributed titles(including the TV series "Hogan's Heroes")are owned by CBS/Paramount.
Though,i doubt seriously that Paramount would release it.
They have a tendency to release DVD dates on thier older catalog titles only to reverse thier decision. They promised a spring 2006 release of thier 1976 film "Bugsy Malone" but backed out. Bastards.

Rysher was bought out by Qualia Capital in 2007, who now have the rights to Peter Proud. I think they may be sitting on this film in the hopes of a remake, which has been rumoured for years. Nonetheless, I emailed Ken Schapiro ([email protected]), one of the Qualia founders (and former head of Artisan), pleading for a release of PP on DVD.
