Was it a relatively new formula back then?

I think alot of movies nowadays that are really predictable and follow that same pattern have alot in common with the formula of this movie.

I was wondering was this one of the movies that started that formula that we see alot of today? I think if not it was a great job on the writer's / director's part. Im sure the formula we find boring now, coulda been great entertainment back in the day
