Is Hollywood really that void of new ideas that they must continue to pointlessly remake classic films from the '60s, '70s, '80s?

Why do people always assume that Hollywood is out of ideas whenever they do a remake? They know remakes sell so it is all about the money and little else.

Mack Sennett was doing remakes of his 1910's movies already in the 20's. Nothing new.

The orignal film is a classic and there is no good reason to remake it. I wouldn't mind revisitng the whole thing however. Have a detective or the relatives of the victims come looking for them.
