It really doesn't make any sense

Why would the Satanists be after these people? I mean, if they thought their sacrifice was the right thing to do, according to their religion, then why would they care who saw it? And if the policeman (or sheriff or whatever) convinced them that they were just drunk and seeing things, why did they continue their pursuit? That was just adding salt to the wound. They should have just let them go and let that be that. I know, the movie was probably suggesting that Satanists are evil, which I doubt.

Well actually in this context the Satanists would probably believe in anarchy and murder. They might have beed doing it as entertainment. There wouldn't really be any reason to go after them simply because they saw the murder, they couldn't positively identify anyone present at the ceremony. But maybe according to their religion these folks perpetrated some kind of violation by intruding on their ceremony that called for their deaths. And furthermore, they were always on the lookout for more sacrifies to Satan or whomever they actually worshiped. Who in their right mind would have been a willing sacrifice for these people? I imagine a lot of their vicitms were either kidnapped or drugged.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me.

The Satanists were going to let them go had they been were sure they wouldn't tell anyone. That is why the sheriff tried to talk them into believing they might not have seen what they say they did. They also tried to sweep it under the rug with a phony investigation.

However, when the couples get to the garage to get the back window fixed, the attendant who was a Satanist overheard them talking about going to Amarillo to get the dirt and blood sample that Roger secretly took from the murder site to the real police and have it tested. Therefore, they probably decided that they had to kill them to keep them quiet.

If that's true- if the Satanists were willing to let them go, then why were they chasing the RV to try and get at the couples right after the murder was committed? The Satanists wanted to kill them right away to close the loophole. But that begs the question- they had ample opportunities to do so after the couples appeared at the Sheriff's Office to make their report. Now the Satanists knew what they and their rec vehicle looked like.

Very perceptive. Thank you.

I think the Satanists would be aware that even if their sacrifice was the right thing to do according to their religion, it would still contravene the laws of the land.

There are Satanists, and then there are "secular" Satanists. The latter group are not particularly evil - more of your sex, drugs and rock n roll stuff.

Well duh because it's murder, and although the local fuzz is OK with it (part of it), they were gonna take it outside and over to the big city.
