If you pay attention, according to that library book they were performing some sort of Aztec ritual. If they are some sort of Aztec cult it would be more realistic if they were Mexican not white. But then i suppose that wouldn't be PC.

One of the movie's gimmicks was they used real-life Satanists to play the cult members.
