Occult Films?

Just out of interest cxn anybody suggest films that are similar to this as I really enjoyed it?

reply

Hi,
the Occult has never been a terribly popular subject matter with American filmmakers. However, there is this one film from the 1070s with John Travolta costarring Ernest Borgnine that explores a cult in the North West. Check out the filmography of both actors on IMDB and match it up

Thanks very much I will get on it.

the movie you are thinking of is'THE DEVILS RAIN'.ALSO CHECK OUT 'DEADLY BLESSING'.IT ALSO STARS ERNEST BORGNINE.

reply

The Devil's Rain also stars William Shatner, Tom Skerritt, and Eddie Albert.
There is a half-second clip which shows John Travolta as one of the Satanists, and I believe one of the crew introduced him to the cult of Scientology on the set of that film.
Real-life Satanist Anton Lavey also has a cameo.
In the showdown between Earnest Borgnine and Bill Shatner, I kind of imagined Borgnine laughing while Airwolf hovers over the small ghost town, piloted by a satanically-controlled Jan Micheal Vincent....who would fire a "nuclear-tipped Shrike Missile" from Airwolf, which would then shoot straight up into space...Borgnine would chant something, and the next scene we see is of Lt. Sulu on the bridge of the Enterprise, his eyes going pitch black as he himself is satanically controlled, lowering the shields, and then we see the Shrike Missile destroy the Enterprise with a nuclear blast.
Shatner sees the remnants of the Enterprise enter the atmosphere and exclaims, "My God, what have I DONE?".
Borgnine (Corbis) laughs and replies, "Thou has DOOMED theyself and thine crew, Martin Fife!".
Kirk is seized by the satanists, who take him into the satanic church where he is transformed into another brainwashed cultist.

It's really hard to get in that genre (conspiratorial, evil) without introducing other elements, it seems (like excluding horror from slasher flicks or vampire films). I'll have to think but Rosemary's Baby and The Ninth Gate come to mind.

reply

Eyes Wide Shut. It doesn't have much blockbuster action but it is quite suspenseful and thought provoking with a similar "sinister cult" theme.

Satan's Slave
The Dunwich Horror
