Hard to find DVD?

I was trying to find this title on DVD for my mother as it is one of her favorite movies, but can't find it for less than $120 used. Any ideas why it is so expensive?

Watch out for snakes!!

In a word, "greed". The sellers figure if you want it badly enough, you'll pay it. Sad, isn't it?

@mrshvd3,

I must say to you Schmucko, "Nay-Nay"! Not greed, you ignorant rubberhole, but a better way! Simply labeled as "Supply & Demand"

Let's try it out, shall we?! DVD is in relatively produced in short numbers. DVD is no longer made, and is now OOP, or Out of Production. VHS, cannot be giving away at Goodwill stores, (I have actually heard that some cheap, cheap lowlifes still watch this terrible movie format, sometimes called "Poor Mans Cinema). Because said Movie is a seldom known or seen title, television or cable will not market said title. So desperate movie lovers of said title who desperately want to view said title must go to local library (And rent 'Pluto Nash, because no one at library has even heard of "Queen of the Stardust Ballroom". One desperate measure still available to desperate to view certain title. Break open kiddie piggy bank and use catholic school 'Confirmation' funds to finance very expensive freight DVD by the title of "Queen of the Stardust Ballroom"

Daggit, it ain't not that troubling to not do!

No need to thank me, I know this definitely helped!

Whether you call it supply and demand or greed, it sometimes comes back to bite you in the seat of your pants. I recall the DVD set from Image called "The Human Condition", a trilogy, which originally retailed for about $29.95 per disk. Then it went out of print, and one capitalist Amazon Marketplace seller decided he was going to retired in Palm Springs on his disks and asked $1200 for the first disk, $1500 for the second and $2000 for the third. Needless to say, they never sold.

Not long afterwards, Criterion released the entire trilogy, in a fully restored print, for about $60.00 for the entire box set. That seller probably still has those older, unrestored prints. If he'd have offered them at a reasonable price of, say $50.00 per disk, he'd have sold them and made a few decent bucks in profit. I'll bet he still has them sitting on his shelf.

Showtime Cable has bought it and the manufacturer has stopped making it. No surprise there.

It's so expensive because it is out of print, or discontinued. If you can find it for $120 that's a bargain. I've found it for $225 and even $499.

I just sold my VHS copy for $25. The next lowest priced one is $40. I'm not greedy, but if I can get a decent price for something rare, I'll charge it. It's a simple matter of supply and demand, free enterprise American-style. It's possible that this film may never again be printed in a consumable version, so why shouldn't the few that are out there fetch a good price?

Actually (and I hope this is the way it goes for many wonderful TV movies), it will probably fall into the public domain many years from now, and you'll be able to pick it up for a pittance at the dollar store. But for now....happy hunting. TV movies on VHS (and some on DVD) are gold.

momster64 - I saw it on Amazon.com (used) for $33.39 plus $2.98 for s/h - the user got good reviews re: its condition; hope this helps. This lovely movie should be more accessible/affordable - what a breath of fresh air compared to some of the crap that's on now.
