Dawn of the Dead

I recently watched FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE for the first time and was struck by some of the similarities between that film and George Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD. Basically, in both films we find ourselves following four characters (two white men, one black man and a pregnant woman) who are witnesses to the destruction of the world as they know it, and must go out into the world to find a new home for themselves while trying to cohabitate with people who are essentially strangers and probably wouldn't have chosen to associate with each other under other circumstances.

The plots of the films are different and the films are of two different genres, but I can't help but feel as though they are similar at their core. Since FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE pre-dates DAWN OF THE DEAD, I wonder if Romero drew some inspiration from it, or if it's purely coincidence.

Does anyone else who's seen both of these films have the same impression, or is it just me?

Thanks for the similarities. Yes, Romero may have noticed this. Anyway, A great watch nevertheless.

I'm glad someone else sees it that way too :)
and yes, the apocalyptic nature is very strong in both.
