Is this anything to do with the Oedipus Complex?

I do not know much about psychoanalysing, but here's a shot...
The son had not resolved the Oedipux Complex, due to his father dying, before fearing castration. He therefore, did not develop the superego, which acts as a moral authority, and stops him from doing stupid things. It also means he is not jealous of the father, and the mother is the only one he loves. This is why he helped in killing the newsreader.
It's sort of like Psycho (1960), especially with the monstrous feminine which states all females must die and they are automatically evil.
Can't say I noticed Mulvey's gaze too much though
