that poor lizard :(. made me loose interest in the movie

up until that totally unnessecary scene i thought it was a nice movie... but then suddenly someone put a needle through a living lizards body and filmed it.

i was so disgusted, and yes i am an animal friend.
and i think its totally baloone to make animals hurt for real in something as unimportant as a movie.animals doesnt have to be in pain just for human enjoyment on screeen.

blergk.

so.. yeah. this movie sucked because of that.

I'm a vegan and I know what you feel.

This statement was at the moment of Deep Red blu-ray release:

Deep Red will be passed UNCUT ! Argento's people were contacted regarding the lizard scene, and this was their reply:

"La lucertola non era morta, ma era un tipo di trucco fatto con un chiodo falso."

The above translates as: "The lizard was not harmed, it was an effect done with a false pin."

I really want to believe it's faked, like the bird scene (that was obvious).

I actually never rated the movie because I need total assurance that the lizard scene is fake. Even so, I still would have a problem with the dog fight scene.

Could you be any more postmodernist? When someone steps on a cocroach, do you also make a funeral for it and call the police to arrest the murderer?

OK, go and watch the Care Bears then. First, you don't know if the lizard got hurt, and second, it's part of the film. What a way to ignore a great film just because you find a lizard being hurt. What about the dog fighting scene? Did that upset you too? I hate people that watch movies and get upset when an animal gets hurt even if it is not real and then when people get stabbed, murdered, abused, raped then it's ok to watch.

Awww, boohoo...

I find the constant animal abuse in Argento's films to be very off putting.

I do my best to look past things of this nature, as a huge horror fan it's common to run into this stuff, but it's always upsetting and depressing when the film maker thinks their movie is so important that they should literally kill stuff for it. From what I've seen, he puts some form of animal abuse or killing (often real) in all of his films.

While Americans think racism is a way of life and should be tolerated. I'd take a European over you any day. You're sick. And anyone who whines about animals but thinks they deserve to live in a country based on hate and killed and pushed out an entire ethnic group is sick. You are evil.

Horror movies are meant to horrify. If seeing animals harmed in a film bothers you then the filmmaker was successful. Besides, Dario is a vegetarian and has often spoken of his love for animals. I can't say for sure with the lizard because it looks too real, but it's obviously fake in every other instance. What about the snake being cut in half in Friday the 13th? That was real and people consider it one of the best horror films of all time.

"If seeing animals harmed in a film bothers you then the filmmaker was successful".

So, in other words, all one has to do in order to be a successful horror director, is to engage in animal cruelty. Interesting standards you've got there. Also, only a moron would consider Friday the 13th "one of the best horror films of all time".

OK, let's have it - which actors were actually tortured during the filming of this flick?
