What Antonioni wanted to say ?

I feel the ending was quite clear. This was not one of those ambiguously ended movies where you can say that the viewer should thrust interpretation into the narrative. It had a very solid chain of links from start to finish, but the clues were also very subtle. It was not also one of those films that makes sure the audience has every single necessary clue directly stamped on film in front of them (preferably with a close-up Fincher style shot of the clue). Most of the story takes place beyond what we see, and what we see are only hints of multiple conspiracies circling around one foolish man.
