So how the hell did they achieve the penultaimte 10 minute sequence?

Nicholson made no sense in his explanation, I still don't understand how they did that insane shot sequence... anyone wanna shed some light? something that is close to the truth, something that makes sense perhaps?

thank you.

I've just seen it: if you look carefully, there is some iron wire wrapped around the bar in front of the camera, because it have been cutted, so they just have to open the grill to let the camera and the operator pass through. Then they put it back for the opposite shoot at the end of the sequence.

Makes sense. One of the best scenes in film history.

Yup, amazing shot. The first time I saw this movie, the camera was maybe five feet outside of the building before I even realised what had happened, I was carried away with what was going on. Then I suddenly sat up in my chair and realised the camera had gone from inside the building, to outside the building with no breaks, through bars, and no exposure adjustments! Whew!

Just watched it for the first time. What an amazing scene! My reaction was like yours. I thought, "How the hell did he do that?" Antonioni is the man.
