DVD available

A version taken from the original negative is currently being sold on e-bay -- with the company selling it doing their own English dubs. Better than the crappy VHS-to-DVD version being sold by some other companies online. Check it out, they are selling multiple copies.

perhaps you can provide a link because I see nothing for this on ebay

99% of you people send me PM's with questions and never bother to check that I replied to them.

Perhaps the link was up when I posted my message but you did not see it in time.

I'm not sure if the last dig was aimed at me but you are coming across as pretty arrogant. I never PM'd you.

Regardless, the dvd was being sold on e-bay. The seller sold a few copies then decided to stop for some reason, I cannot fathom. I would check again ever so often if you are interested.

hey Chas77,
Ebay keeps auction links up for 90 days, so even if the auction is expired you can still view it and this way see which seller it was. Do you recall the seller's user name?

No the bottom is my signature not aimed at you

Sorry, I thought I left a link and I apologize for the snarky comment.

Let me see if I can find it -- this was a seller who claimed to have professionally dubbed in (through his company) version and was selling multiple copies. He sold a few a couple of months ago -- and I didn't get in on the action. I asked if he was going to re-sell and he said he would. Later that day, in fact. So I did a "buy it now" for $9.99 plus $3.00 shipping. Apparently some people got a copy but I never got mine. So I made a claim thru e-bay and got my money back (after trying to get ahold of the seller twice).

Anyway, the reason I'm bringing up this long story is just to warn you in case you do bid on his film -- he never explained why he didn't deliver.

See if this link shows up:

otherwise his name is 4840joe and you can bug him directly or check to see if he has any auctions open (but buyer beware!)

Interesting. Link worked fine. I will take a look around and see if I can dig up anything else on this. I can see something like this being re-booted. Let you know if I turn anything up as well as the possible risk in dealing with this seller if he should decide to make more available

my signatue came about because what was happening for a number of horror related films was that I was getting asked questions (PM) and when I would reply (Vaa pm) , going by imdb's notifications I would see my answers were not being read at all by the people who had asked them. Makes no sense to me and
hence that became my sig

I see. How annoying (about the sig).

Anyway, yes, let me know if you end up getting this film. There is a crappy version being sold on ioffer.com by a web company called "cinema bizarre" - something like that. I can't give this DVD version a FAVORABLE recommendation. Like a chump I bought it. It's HORRIBLE. A bad VHS-to-DVD copy. The vhs flutters and rolls and the sound and picture are terrible. I didn't watch more than a minute before putting it away. That's why I had high hopes for this one being sold on e-bay. If you look at this guy's feedback some people apparently DID get a copy and are happy.

It's like the holy grail trying to get ahold this film! Well, please let me know if you get a decent version and I'll do the same.

midnight video (who has been a very reliable video source for like over 20 years or so) has a copy of this and I know they used to be very picky with quality. Their dvd is actually in english with no Japanese subtitles

Interesting. Thanks. Although they do state:

"We offer this rare film in the best video quality to date."

But that can mean anything!

reply

well midnight already has a decent reputation so you can usually take their word for it.

When I get more funding I might take a shot with their print

I just finished watching my Midnight video copy of this movie. The quality is ok. A lot better than the "Cinema de Bizarre" mailorder copy I bought then discarded after watching a few minutes of, the quality was so bad. The Midnight video copy appears to be sourced from a VHS transfer as well but it's a good copy at least with no stuttering tape or streaks or whathaveyou and they obviously tweaked it a bit in the transfer to make it look slightly better than a mere VHS.

That said, I'd only give this film about a 6 out of 10. It has promise and has a few genuinely creepy moments but it could have been much better. Coincidentally I just watched "The Crazies" remake a few days earlier. They share similar themes of a distrust in the government after catastrophe. Would make a good double feature.
